Conference "Croatia - Next EU member"

The Southeast Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL) participated at the conference „Croatia – Next EU Member “ held in the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium on June 9th, 2010. The goal of the conference (organized by the S&D Group in cooperation with the mission of Croatia to the European Union) was to present accomplishments and development possibilities in major economic sectors in Croatia with a particular focus on regional development, in view of Croatia’s forthcoming EU accession.

The conference aimed at gathering together representatives of the EU and relevant economic and regional interest groups to open discussion regarding the economic potential of Croatia and its regions, and thus create a positive image of Croatia as the next EU member.

In the light of the conference SEECEL’s director, Ms Efka Heder, one of the keynote speakers at the Panel on Entrepreneurial Education (one of the four panels of the conference), presented the work and activities of SEECEL in the region. She shared experiences considering SEECEL’s first regional conference.

Relating SEECEL’s regional role with the topic of the conference, Heder remarked that human capital is the biggest Croatian economic potential, and that developing human capital is most crucial in Croatia as it will contribute to strengthening economic competitiveness of Croatia as well as the SEE region. Hence, she emphasized the importance of developing entrepreneurial learning as a key competence in human capital development.
