Developing an Entrepreneurial Society: Cyprus

Nicosia, 11 – 14 July 2016 – representatives of the South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL) travelled to Cyprus to have a working visit upon invitation of the Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus.
The aim of the visit was to discuss possibilities of mutual cooperation in the field of entrepreneurial learning, having in mind Cyprus' fast-growing economy with a lot of potential, especially in the area of small and medium entrepreneurship.

The Pedagogical Institute of Cyprus is currently drafting the Action Plan on Entrepreneurial Learning and is translating SEECEL´s instruments to be used to support the implementation of the Action Plan. Therefore, SEECEL has offered its support to the overall process in terms of expertise and experience sharing in this relevant field.

During the meeting with Ms Athena Michaelidou, Director of the Pedagogical Institute, SEECEL presented its model of structured regional cooperation in the field of life-long entrepreneurial learning where each actor is relevant – from student to teacher, from practitioner to policy makers.

Later on a successful meeting with Mr Constantinos Karageorgis, EU SME Envoy and Councelor from the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism was held. Mr Karageorgis highlighted the importance of collaboration between business and education. He endorsed SEECEL´s work in the area of entrepreneurial learning and how using its experience can benefit Cyprus.

The visit was continued with a meeting at the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ms Heder presented the work of the Chambers Investment Forum (CIF) and collaboration model of Chambers in the field of life-long entrepreneurial learning.

SEECEL very much supports this kind of national initiatives towards creating the Entrepreneurial Society and is grateful for enjoying support of the Cyprian counterparts in sharing experiences and developments on entrepreneurial learning agenda.

SEECEL's representatives were Efka Heder, Director and Sonja Šegvić, Office and Event Manager.
