Education in the Digital Era

Brussels, 11 December 2014 – SEECEL was invited to participate in the conference entitled Education in the Digital Era. The event was organized to address key priorities regarding the future of education. Experts from around the European Union gathered to participate in four separate discussion panels.

In the opening session, Ms Stefania Giannini, Italian Minister of Education, emphasized that “digital language must be spoken in this century”. Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Mr Tibor Navracsics identified that technology has a vital importance for education. Ms Silvia Costa, Chair of the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Education, suggested that education and human capital development must be one of five investment priorities.

The first panel focused on increasing quality of learning, which requires making learning more collaborative and connected through digital means with respect to individual needs.

The second panel highlighted the importance of creating better and more engaging ways of teaching in order to unlock the potential for a more individual approach with students.

The third panel addressed inequalities that limit access to knowledge. It is important that learners are able to digitally access the best content, resources and teachers.

Ministerial panel dealt with the impact on National Policy Agendas. Finally, the closing session concentrated on summarizing objectives and in finding the way forward trough efficient solutions.
