Europe Day 2014!

The 9th of May marks the 64th year since the former French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, took steps towards a more united Europe by the creation of what is now known as the European Union.

The Schuman Declaration stated that the "contribution which an organized and living Europe can bring to civilization is indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations."

The European Commission, along with other EU institutions, organises various events in regards to the Europe Day celebration such as EU Open Doors.

In looking ahead, SEECEL believes that by means of cooperative and collaborative efforts objective set by the EU can produce concrete and promising results for the European citizens.

Croatia, as a new Member State, also joins this celebration by organising various events during the Europe week, with the main all-day festivities taking place on 9 May, in front of the House of Europe in Zagreb. Workshops, choir performances and pronouncement of a photo contest winner on the theme “Hunt for the best moment in the EU”. Apart from occasional promotional materials related to the issues of the European Union and individual Member States, visitors will be able to try some traditional dishes from the Member States.
