European University-Business Forum

The European University-Business thematic Forum held on the 21st and 22nd of November at the University of Twente in Netherlands focused on university-business cooperation as a crucial element of innovation. The event, organized by the European Commission, drew together university staff, policy makers and business representatives to discuss how universities working in partnership with economic actors can contribute to an innovative ecosystem.

Special attention was paid to entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial learning and SMEs as key drivers of innovation and therefore excellent partners for university cooperation. SMEs in particular can benefit the most from universities as often they themselves do not have sufficient funds for dedicated innovation, design and research facilities and staff, but have a strong and clearly defined need to innovate to remain competitive. In turn, universities benefit from a strong representation from the economic sector which helps facilitate the role of universities as key innovators in society.

Ms Maja Ljubić, SEECEL programme development coordinator said that: "the sessions were full of vibrant discussions and SEECEL's experience and publications were able to support generation of new ideas that will help universities across Europe engage with SMEs in a systematic and structured manner."
