Global Money Week 2016

Zagreb, 11 March 2016 – in order to permanently stimulate financial literacy and education in the field of financing especially among young people, Republic of Croatia is celebrating Global and European Money Week between 9 and 15 March 2016. Cooperation between Ministry of finance, Ministry of economy, Ministry of science, education and sports, Croatian Education and Teacher Training Agency, Croatian Banking Association, Croatian Chamber of Economy and Croatian Employers' Association organised student's visits to many important financial institutions, student debates, lectures and presentations.

The goal is to teach children and youth about money, saving, creating livelihoods, gaining employment and becoming an entrepreneur through fun and interactive activities. Also, it's important to reshape financial systems and make sure everyone helps children and youth to become economically empowered citizens. By celebrating Global Money Week we are encouraging children and youth in our communities, supporting financial education for children and youth, connecting them with partners, colleagues, friends and families.

There are many reasons why financial literacy is important, but it certainly emphasizes its role in ensuring long-term stability of the financial system of society and active participation of individuals in economic life which is considered to be almost unthinkable without the appropriate level of basic financial literacy.

Every year, entire communities take action to create awareness, challenge out of date financial policies and give young people the tools and inspiration they need to shape their own future. GMW is an international Week, with many events, activities, projects, launches and competitions taking place in over 100 countries with an impressive number of 10 402 financially educated children.

South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL) is supporting this initiative because financial literacy is esential part of SEECEL model of entrepreneurship as a key competence which reflects to creation of entrepreneurial mind set for a better community.
