International Conference “Women in Entrepreneurship: A South East European Response”

Opatija, 13 – 15 October 2015 – The International Conference “Women in Entrepreneurship: A South East European Response”, organised by the South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL), took place in Opatija (Croatia) on 13-15 October 2015.
 
During the three-day event, more than 120 conference participants had the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences as well as to create new business opportunities. In addition, three interesting panels – Start & Grow, Grow & Go Internationally and Financial Readiness – were held, with various types of speakers including entrepreneurs, representatives of national authorities and business support institutions from the region of South East Europe and beyond.
 
The conference was organized to coincide with the European SME Week 2015, the campaign of the European Commission to promote entrepreneurship across Europe.
 
The aim of the conference was to present the results of the project “Women's Entrepreneurship – A Job Creation Engine for South Eastern Europe” which SEECEL is implementing since 2012 in nine countries in order to strengthen support for women entrepreneurs through a joint effort of the public and private sectors. The following countries are participating in the project: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo*, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia and Turkey.
 
Over the four-year duration of the project, SEECEL developed and published the following materials in cooperation with entrepreneurs, their business associations, international experts and decision makers: Women Entrepreneurs’ Indicators, Women Entrepreneurs’ Training Needs Analysis, WE Training Modules and Good Practice Criteria as well as twenty-seven inspiring video stories of women entrepreneurs. All produced materilas are being used as learning and educational materials.
 
The donor of the project “Women's Entrepreneurship – A Job Creation Engine for South Eastern Europe” is the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA), the coordinating organisation is the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) from Sarajevo, and the project activities are implemented by SEECEL and the Gender Task Force (GTF) - Initiative for Sustainable Growth based in Zagreb.
