Cork, 19 November 2016 – as a nominee for the prestigious Startup Nations Award for Groundbreaking Policy Thinking and Europe’s representative, the South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (SEECEL) attended awarding ceremony at the Startup Nations Summit in picturesque Cork, Ireland.

The Startup Nations Summit (SNS) gathered a network of start-up community leaders and policymakers from around the world to help better enable high impact entrepreneurship, especially through the identification of policy levers and smart public sector driven programs.  For a second year in a row, innovative public sector leaders and policy approaches from around the world were recognized through the Startup Nations Awards.

This year’s winner of the prestigious Startup Nations Award for Groundbreaking Policy Thinking award was Dr. Hugo Kantis, Director of Entrepreneurship Development Program from Argentina. Dr. Kantis’ achievements elevated the concept of evidence-based policy making, as well as encouraged regular regional knowledge exchange to more effectively support entrepreneurs. Dr. Kantis received award as recognition of his effort to shift the policy mind-set of a whole continent from a focus on microenterprises towards the more ambitious aim of promoting dynamic entrepreneurship from a systemic perspective.

SEECEL and other three finalists have congratulated Dr. Kantis during the awarding ceremony by stating: “congratulation to Argentina for being awarded while the rest of us will celebrate the second place.”

SEECEL’s representatives were Ms Efka Heder, Director, Ms Maja Ljubić, Assistant Director and Ms Sandra Rončević, Assistant Director.

The Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications and Startup Estonia have been selected to host the Startup Nations Summit in 2017.
