Women Entrepreneurship Indicators Working Group meeting in Istanbul

Istanbul, Turkey – the EU member states and pre-accession countries are obliged to report about implementation of the Small Business Act for Europe (SBA). For the pre-accession region policy assessment, the process is based on policy indicators developed by the European Commission, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and the European Training Foundation (ETF) in cooperation with pre-accession region SBA national coordinators.

With particular emphasis given to women entrepreneurs in the SBA, at a meeting of the SBA Coordinators for the EU pre-accession region on 22-23 March 2010, ETF proposed to determine feasibility for indicators on women entrepreneurs to be considered for inclusion in an indicator package originally elaborated for the European Charter for Small Enterprise. First generation of women entrepreneurship indicators for principle one of SBA was developed in Istanbul on 20-21 April 2010 with national experts (confirmed by the national SBA coordinators) from eight SEE countries (with participation of experts from South Mediterranean countries – ENPI).

The WE Indicators expert work group meeting was conducted on 17-18 December 2012 in Istanbul with Ms Slavica Singer and Mr Frank Hennessey as facilitators and work group coordinators. As the regionally recognized expert institution in the field of entrepreneurial learning, the SEECEL was organising and hosting this result oriented expert group meeting. SEECEL team members significantly contributed to work meeting achievements; Ms Efka Heder, SEECEL Director presented SEECEL activities on the field of SBA WE Indicators with focus on SME Policy Index. The presentation of the objectives, activities and responsibilities for the work group members was conducted by Ms Sandra Rončević, SEECEL Assistant Director and introduction to the Community of Practice (CoP) was presented by Ms Maja Ljubić, SEECEL Assistant Director with continuous support of Ms Sonja Šegvić, SEECEL Office and Event Manager and Mr Stjepan Srhoj SEECEL Associate.

The WE Indicators Work Group members conducted a detail analysis of existing condition, initiated work on newly accepted guidelines and created a work time line with precise information which will cover the national dissemination. This successful gathering of field experts was closed with conclusion and direction that WE Indicators WG activities are to be continued until month September 2013 through Community of Practice.
